Acronym for Delegated Proof of Stake. A consensus algorithm developed to secure a blockchain by ensuring representation of transactions within it.

DPoS is a more efficient PoS mechanism. DPoS uses a reputation system and real-time voting to achieve consensus.

The DPoS algorithm uses an election system based on the delegates’ reputation to protect blockchain from centralization and malicious usage. Active users of DPoS-based blockchain vote for “witnesses” and “delegates” by placing their token on the name of their candidate. If an elected node misbehaves or does not work efficiently, it will be quickly expelled by the community and replaced by another one.

TRON network uses an improved version of DPoS as its consensus algorithm which is known as TPoS (TRON Proof of Stake).
