Every time miners approve transactions on the Bitcoin blockchain, they earn Bitcoin. However, the number of Bitcoin that will ever be created is fixed to 21 million. In order to ensure this cap is kept, the amount of Bitcoin earned by miners for mining one block is halved every four years. By the year 2140, all 21 million Bitcoin will be mined.
