BTTC (BitTorrent Chain)

BitTorrent Chain (BTTC) is the primary EVM-compatible scaling solution and cross-chain bridge for the TRON ecosystem, enabling seamless asset transfers between TRON, Ethereum, and BNB Chain. By leveraging Proof-of-Stake consensus and supporting standard Solidity developer tooling, BTTC provides the high-performance infrastructure needed for interoperable decentralized applications.

Official domain: bt.io

BTTC serves two roles simultaneously:

  1. Cross-chain bridge — lock assets on a source chain (TRON, Ethereum, or BNB Chain), receive wrapped equivalents on the destination chain, and unlock originals on redemption
  2. EVM-compatible execution layer — deploy and run smart contracts using the same Solidity toolchain as Ethereum (Hardhat, Foundry, MetaMask, ethers.js)

This dual function means BTTC is both the infrastructure for moving value between chains and an independent smart contract platform in its own right.

BTTC uses Proof-of-Stake consensus. Validators stake BTT to participate in block production and earn staking rewards. The validator set secures both the chain and the cross-chain bridge checkpoints.

BTTC 2.0 Mainnet launched June 30, 2025, delivering scalability improvements and upgraded cross-chain infrastructure supporting higher-volume bridging.

BTT is the native gas token on BTTC — required to pay transaction fees, just as ETH is used on Ethereum. BTT exists as a TRC-10 token on TRON and has equivalent representations on Ethereum and BNB Chain via the BTTC bridge.

BTTC is EVM-compatible, which means:

  • Deploy Solidity contracts with no code changes
  • Connect MetaMask or any EIP-1193-compatible wallet by adding the BTTC network (RPC settings available at bt.io)
  • Use Hardhat or Foundry exactly as on Ethereum
  • Use block explorers compatible with standard EVM chains

The primary differences from Ethereum development are the gas token (BTT instead of ETH) and significantly lower fees.

To bridge via BTTC:

  1. Connect your wallet on the source chain (TRON, Ethereum, or BNB Chain)
  2. Select the token and amount to transfer
  3. Approve the lock transaction on the source chain
  4. Receive wrapped tokens on BTTC or the destination chain

Transfer times vary — TRON to BTTC is typically fast; Ethereum finalizations may require a waiting period.

As of 2025, BTTC processed over $1.63 billion in cross-chain volume: TRON contributed the largest share ($917M), followed by Ethereum ($692M) and BNB Chain ($20M).
