Unstaking period is exactly 14 days (1,209,600 seconds). Calculation accounts for leap years. Once the 14 days elapse, you must manually call the withdrawal transaction — TRX is not returned automatically.

How the unbonding period works

Under Stake 2.0 (TIP-369), unstaking TRX does not return it to your wallet immediately. The sequence is:

1. Initiate unfreeze — call the unfreeze transaction. Your TRX stops generating Energy or Bandwidth and loses its TRON Power immediately.
2. 14-day waiting period — exactly 1,209,600 seconds (14 × 86,400). The countdown begins at the block timestamp of your unfreeze transaction.
3. Withdraw — once 14 days have elapsed, you must call a separate withdrawal transaction to return the TRX to your liquid balance. It does not return automatically.

TRX does not auto-withdraw

After the 14-day unbonding period ends, your TRX sits in an intermediate state until you call the withdrawal transaction. There is no deadline to withdraw — you can do it any time after the period ends — but you will not earn staking rewards or vote weight during this window.

Practical tips

Check your wallet before initiating. Once unstaking begins, TRON Power drops immediately and your SR votes are removed. If you vote in a specific Epoch, wait until after the maintenance period (at the end of the 6-hour cycle) and rewards are distributed before unstaking to avoid losing that period’s rewards.

Partial unfreezes are possible. You can unfreeze a portion of your staked TRX while keeping the rest staked. Each unfreeze operation starts its own independent 14-day countdown.

Plan around the 14-day window. If you need liquid TRX by a specific date, work backwards 14 days to find the latest safe initiation date.

You can cancel a pending unfreeze. If you change your mind during the 14-day period, TRON Stake 2.0 lets you cancel with a cancelAllUnfreezeV2 transaction. The TRX reverts to staked status immediately — it does not become liquid, it simply returns to your frozen balance. This is available in TronLink’s staking interface. If you instead wait out the full 14 days and withdraw, you must call a new freeze transaction to re-stake.
